Vilax AB

Our story

It was in 1949 that Gunnar and Einar Persson founded Vilax, then known as Bröderna Persson Madrassfabrik, in Malmö. Initially an upholstery workshop and joinery, spring mattress production followed soon after. The brothers’ craft expertise and feel for hand-woven steel springs was in high demand, and before long they were supplying a number of other furniture manufacturers.

For three full decades, Vilax supplied virtually every Swedish furniture manufacturer with hand-woven spring cores.

As many factories closed or moved production abroad, we became increasingly known for our made-to-measure sofas, for hotels, restaurants and nightclubs, offices, airports and shopping centres. Even oil platforms.

The superior comfort and durability of our furniture laid the foundation for our beds, which became one of our true signature products. As early as the 1960s, Vilax beds were delivered to the Royal Palace of Sweden. Leading Swedish hotels and discerning private customers have chosen us ever since.

Today, the fourth generation of the Persson family builds beds and sofas exactly as we always have. Our colleague Benny Nilsson has been building beds by hand for more than 40 years at Vilax, all under one roof, here in Staffanstorp. We have all found that this is simply the best way.

The heart of Vilax

An ode to the spring

Ever since the Persson brothers founded Vilax in 1949, almost everything has come down to the craft, and to one small steel spring. We still hand-braid our own steel springs into a continuous spiral core that forms the heart of all our beds, sofas, and armchairs.
